Last month we introduced you to Aleisha Caruso; a wonderful woman who does everything in her power to offer a voice to the voiceless.
This month we present Stuart and Amanda Payne, the founders of the WA Conservation of Raptors
Amanda and Stuart Payne
care for raptorial birds of prey that have been handed in by members
of the public, veterinary specialists and CALM. In most cases, the
birds have been injured. The majority of the injuries are caused by
car strikes, poisoning, shooting and starvation. Sadly, birds arrive
regularly from all over Western Australia, from Broome to Albany and
everywhere in between.
The WA Conservation of Raptors receive, on average, around 120 birds
a year and are proud of their 50% success rate as far as rehabilitation
goes, and their ability to release many of these amazing creatures
back into the wild. Being solely self-funded, both Amanda and Stuart
hold down seperate, full-time, non raptor-related jobs to cover the
huge costs incurred by caring for injured birds of prey. If you'd
like to offer your support by way of a financial donation, you can
email them here.
For many reasons, both Amanda and Stuart find caring for raptorial
birds of prey both rewarding and, at times, heart breaking, but both
say they would never swap what they do for anything in the world.
The WA Conservation of Raptors run education programmes for schools,
agricultural shows and veterinary nurse students right across WA.
They also offer talks for CALM at the Hills Forrest Discovery Centre
and the Herdsman Lake Centre as well as the Owl Watch Programme that
sees school-age children being supervised by CALM officers as they
count Owls, at night, in designated areas. The children love to see
the Owls up close, going about their business in their natural habitat
– and better still, in the wild where they belong.
It is a requirement set down by CALM (Conservation and Land Management)
that Amanda and Stuart hold a current wildlife carers licence to look
after and treat the birds that are surrendered to them.

Abundance
When asked the question of what wealth means to you, would you say
that having copious amounts of money would definitely seal the deal?
If so, it would be a good answer – but the wrong one. To focus
exclusively on the acquisition of money only amplifies how little
you have. When you concentrate on your desire to attain money, you
are effectively nurturing poverty mentality; a state of mind supported
by society and inherited ways of thinking. It feeds poverty mentality
because it prevents you from seeing the wealth that surrounds you
everyday; the wealth that comes with family and friends. To know true
love is to hold supreme wealth. When you know that wealth rarely takes
the form of money or gold, you release the monetary mindset so fear
of lack can be transmuted into trust. In doing so, the block preventing
your stream of abundance may be removed forever and greater cash flow
will result. Letting go of lack will essentially result in gain.
Grey Kangaroo once offered its rich meat, warm pelt and strong bones,
which were useful as cutting and digging implements. Prosperity meant
healthy children, a full stomach and a warm, dry sleeping place to
the people. They believed the land would provide all they needed and,
